The September issue of The Cultural Diary is now out. You will find in it all the key cultural events taking place in Damascus including painting exhibitions, theatre plays, movies, music concerts and conferences.

As usual you can collect a free copy at any of the major cultural centres and galleries in Damascus.

Zajal

Jaber Zajal Choir

With Wissam Bourhan, Adel Bourhan, Ali Al-Lahham, Abdulrahim Bourhan and Abdulla Bourhan

Zajal is an improvised, sung-poetry tradition in the Arab Middle East. It is possibly inspired by mouashah, also an ode form.  Recited in colloquial Arabic, zajal performance sometimes features percussion accompaniment, the nai, or even all-male or all-female choirs.
